Dr. Jeff Chen


Director at UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative / UCLA Health (CA)

Dr. Chen is a graduate of the specialized dual degree MD/MBA program at UCLA. He has spent the past four years working at the intersection of academia, industry, nonprofit sector and government to accelerate cannabis research. Jeff has been invited to speak on the topic of cannabis policy, science, and business at institutions ranging from the RAND Corporation to the UCLA Center for East West Medicine to Senator Feinstein’s Office. Dr. Chen was the Founder and Director of the UCLA Cannabinoid Affinity Group, comprised of over 40 multidisciplinary UCLA faculty. Dr. Chen is a David Geffen Fellow, UCLA Wolfen Entrepreneurial Award Recipient, U.S. patent holder, and a published author in cancer research. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University.



Boris Shcharansky


Chief Operating Officer / Papa & Barkley (CA)

Since 2012, Boris has been working toward his mission of unlocking the potential of cannabis to improve people’s lives. As Chief Operating Officer of Papa & Barkley, Boris is responsible for business development, managing sales, supplier relations and day-to-day operations. Previously, his accomplishments include the founding of the Iowa Hemp Association and Heartland Hemp Company in Iowa, where he worked with the families of children with epilepsy in order to source domestically grown CBD products.





Co-Founder, Chief Marketing Officer / Nugg (CA)

Alex Milligan is the CMO and co-founder of Nugg & NuggMD, which has provided over 350,000 individuals with safe & reliable access to adult and medical cannabis in California and New York. He and his co-founders, Kam Babazade and Collin Mann, started Nugg in 2015 while still attending the University of Southern California. Alex is a strong advocate for scientific research into cannabis and spends his time thinking about how to accelerate the adoption of cannabis on a global scale. He's also a sucker for walks down Venice beach and a hot cup of tea (at any time of day).



Adrian Farquharson - MODERATOR

Founder, Chief Creative Officer / Mary (NY)

Adrian has an extensive background in the publishing and advertising industry, having worked on the advertising side of Mass Appeal and Esquire magazines and worked with ad agencies such as Digitas, Wunderman, FCB. He regularly consults with various brands, such as Adidas, Atlantic Records, Coca-Cola, Converse, Elle magazine, Esquire magazine, HBO, Sneaker Pimps, and Sony PlayStation. 


Adrian is the founder and editor-in-chief of MARY magazine. MARY explores ways to educate and enlighten our society on cannabis culture. The aim is to change negative impressions and eliminate stigmas and cultivate community and togetherness with family and friends.
